Lawyers secure release of Tibetan monk after six months without charge

China has released a Tibetan monk held for six months without charge after
pressure from two of China's most prominent human rights lawyers.
Jigme, a 42-year-old lama, was released on May 2 and returned a day later to
his monastery, half a year after dozens of police raided his quarters and took
him away for the second time in a year.

Parents of children killed in China earthquake of May 12 arrested

The parents of children killed in last May's earthquake in China have been
routinely detained and harassed when attempting to investigate suspicions of
shoddy building standards, according to a new report from Amnesty
International.
Many of the parents who lost their only child, crushed to death when more than
7,000 classrooms collapsed in the 7.9 magnitude tremor on May 12,

under house arrest for years after confronting the Communist Party head-on,
security was so tight that police sometimes sat in the bedroom of their Beijing

No more 'errors' on Tibet, China tells Paris

"errors" on Tibet amid news the Dalai Lama may be made an honorary citizen of
the French capital, just as frosty ties between the two nations had improved.
"If the Paris city government does make this award, it will definitely meet
once again with the Chinese people's firm opposition," foreign ministry
spokesman Ma Zhaoxu told reporters.

China's ordinance on government information disclosure, launched a year ago. He
contrasts the openness which followed the Sichuan Earthquake with earthquake,
but tempers that good news with the withholding of information which began just
a few weeks after the earthquake and still continues today.

China defends its actions in Tibet but refuses to comment on whether the
Spanish judge's request to travel to China to question the eight senior
Chinese officials will be granted.

No blame in China school collapse
