To, Shri Manmohan Singh ji, The Honable Prime Minister of India, New Delhi. Sub: Justice and compensation for the victims of the Hashimpura Massacre of 1987 and adequate representation of Muslims in Para Military services of the nation. Honable Prime Minister, It has been 25 years since the most gruesome massacre of Hashimpura took place on May 22, 1987. Several PAC Jawans are still being tried for the shooting and killing of 42 Muslims in Meerut. Justice has eluded the Hashimpura victims in the Courtrooms of Uttar Pradesh and Tis Hazari where the case is still pending.

To prevent another Hashimpura from taking place there should be adequate representation of Muslim and Minority Communities personnel in the paramilitary forces of the country. As Convener of the Jan Sangharsh Morcha we present this three-point charter of demands today on the 25th anniversary year of Hashimpura in the hope that something will be done in the matter.

1-      The process of granting justice to the victims and punishment to the accused should be put on fast track as justice delayed is justice denied.

2-      The issue of equitable compensation for the victims has to be addressed. All riot victims should get the same amount of compensation. It is generally perceived that the victims of the 1984 riots in Delhi were given Rs 17 Lakh each and plots and jobs, but the Hashimpura Muslims have got only Rs 4.5 lakh each. As such this anomaly needs to be redressed.

3-      To ensure that another Hashimpura does not take place the process for adequate representation of Muslims and Minorities in the paramilitary forces should begin forthwith.

Honable prime minister, to ensure the all round development of our country it is important that we set the right examples when dealing with the minorities in this nation. If we alienate the minorities we can produce only hatred and mistrust among our own people. I therefore request you to use your good offices and intervene in this matter so that the aims of justice can be met.

Yours cordially

With regards,

(Akhilendra Pratap Singh)

National Convener
