An Open letter to the Chief Minister of West Bengal

16th April 2012

To

The Chief Minister

Government of West Bengal

Writers' Buildings

Kolkata – 1

Dear Ms. Banerjee

I want to draw your attention on incidents of lackadaisical approach of police administration by not registering complaints of marginalized populace and not initiating any required actions on the complaints. Though, you and your colleagues in state government have made unwarranted remarks on these complaints of victims and in that course vitiated the investigation process. On the other hand in many occasions your office has taken partisan and unjustified position and that to curb the resenting voice against the present political regime. Your actions have taken such a proportion that can be identified as political vendetta.

In this case I want to bring into your notice that while the democratic populace and your government is at loggerhead over the illegal eviction drive at Nonadanga and subsequent arrests of democratic rights activists and framing them in false charges; your police is absolutely non committal on a complaint made by the residents or evictees of Nonadnga on 04.04.2012. The complainant made a written complaint at Tiljala police station on that date against brutal police lathicharge over a procession and injuring scores; even children and women. The complaint was duly received by the police station. For your ready reference I am attaching a verbatim translation of the same along with a copy of the complaint.

Please let me know about the actions taken by the police over the complaint.

Sincerely Yours
