CID team grabs Lakshman Seth from Mumbai

Mumbai/ Kolkata, March 17: Former CPM member of Parliament Lakshman Seth and two others facing several charges relating to the violent recapture of Nandigram by CPM cadres in November 2007 were arrested from Mumbai on Friday by a police team from West Bengal.

The others arrested by the CID team were Ashok Guria and Amiya Sahoo. They will be brought to Calcutta after being produced in a Mumbai court.

On February 27 this year, a court in Midnapore had issued arrest warrants against Seth and 71 others after they failed to appear before it to face a chargesheet filed by the CID.

The CID had filed the chargesheet against 88 persons in connection with the disappearance of six people from the Nandigram area of East Midnapore district on November 10, 2007, when CPM cadres effected a violent recapture of the area from local farmers who had refused to give up their land for a chemical hub and had ousted the administration and the CPM for nearly nine months.
