SFS TEMPORARY LECTURER IN BHUTAN

 
The School for Field Studies will be operating a six week field study program in Bhutan for the third time in summer 2012. We are seeking a temporary lecturer (full-time) who can teach about watershed management and conduct relevant research, making links to rural development and conservation issues. We have staffed with American lecturers these past two years, but we would like to position someone from the Himalaya region in the watershed lecturer position in 2012.

Position Summary:  The incumbent will serve full-time as resident instructor for the six-week, six-credit SFS course "Himalayan Forests, Watersheds, and Rural Livelihood," based in Chamkhar Valley, Bumthang District, Bhutan. Their focus should be on the theme of watershed management, and implications for biodiversity conservation, hydro-electric power generation, and rural development. This lecturer should have field skills related to the biophysical aspects of watershed management.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. and university-level teaching experience in a field related to watershed management
  • Field research experience and mentorship of student researchers
·         Experience working with rural government agencies and NGOs
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary teaching and research team
  • Demonstrated commitment to environmental issues
  • Current first aid certification
