Dear friends,

From time immemorial people throughout the world have suffered from gross violation of their rights, dignity and freedom. In today's neo liberal globalised world, large sections of people continue to be exploited and oppressed. Many helpless people of our society are constantly torn apart by strife and violence.

We, the friends at MASUM, are dedicated to create a social environment, free of torture of any kind. A society which would ensure human rights & human dignity. To express solidarity with the international human rights day (10th December), we are going to organise a host of programmes.

The year 2011, witnessed the election of a new goverment in West Bengal. In this changed political scenario the violation of rights perpetrated by the police force still remains more or less the same.. After the decline of the red bastion in Bengal, after three  decades , and establishment of a newly elected government, the police atrocities, state repression, ill treatment in prisons, extra judicial killings in border areas, along with other parts of the state, violation of rights hardly cease to exist. The judiciary is also non- responsive to deal with the matters where men in uniform are accused. The livelihoods of marginalised are also at stake, The various social welfare schemes initiated and implemented by the state seems to be a mockery in many rural areas.

Thus, taking into account the present volatile situation we humbly request all our fraternal organisations to participate in our programmes, duly with your banners, festoons and with all your campaign materials to make this programme an astounding success.

The programme schedule is as follows-

Ø  film screening in 4th December (Sunday), at Sreerampur Town Hall

Ø  manabadhikar mela at Tentulia, Swarupnagar. North 24 Parganas 6th December (Tuesday)

Ø  cultural programme, interactive sessions with victims of torture in 8th December, at Baharampur Rabindra bhavan, Murshidabad.

Ø  fair, display of books in front of Academy Of Fine Arts, in 10th December.. cultural programme, sharing of unheard voices of victims of torture

Looking forward to your active participation, support and cooperation.
