Zuccotti Park protester arrested for making terroristic threats --After the rant, officers from NYPD's intelligence division immediately began working on trying to identify man. 16 Nov 2011 A protester was arrested in Zuccotti Park Wednesday after he threatened to fire-bomb the city - and his rant went viral on YouTube, police said. Nkrumah Tinsley, 29, was arrested after cops saw a video of him claiming he would torch the city during Thursday's mass protest posted online, police said. Cops later identified Tinsley at Zuccotti Park Wednesday and collared him about 5 p.m., police said. He was charged with making terroristic threats. [OMG. The fascism is just breathtaking. Justice Dept: Homeland Security Advised Raids On Occupy Wall Street Camps 16 Nov 2011 According to Rick Ellis at the Examiner, a Justice Department official says that the recent evictions of Occupy movement across the country including Salt Lake City, Denver, Portland, Oakland, and New York City were "coordinated with help from Homeland Security, the FBI and other federal police agencies." Ellis reports that his source says though the decision to evict protesters ultimately rested with each individual jurisdiction, the local police departments "had received tactical and planning advice from national agencies" from the feds. Oakland's mayor Jean Quan told the BBC yesterday that she had participated in a conference call with the leaders of 18 other cities to discuss [the Occupy protest situation].
 
New York Police in Riot Gear Clear 'Occupy' Protesters From Zuccotti Park 15 Nov 2011 New York City police in riot gear swept into a Lower Manhattan park early today to remove Occupy Wall Street demonstrators who had been camping there for more than eight weeks to protest income inequality. Zuccotti Park will remain off-limits to protesters who want to camp there in tents and sleeping bags. Demonstrators lost a bid to return to the park with those items when state Supreme Court Judge Michael Stallman lifted a temporary restraining order late this afternoon, ruling that the city had the power to rid the plaza of the protesters' gear.
 
Reporters Say Police Denied Access to Protest Site 15 Nov 2011 As New York City police cleared the Occupy Wall Street campsite in Zuccotti Park early Tuesday morning, many journalists were blocked from observing and interviewing protesters. Some called it a "media blackout" and said in interviews that they believed that the police efforts were a deliberate attempt to tamp down coverage of the operation. The city blog Gothamist put it this way: "The NYPD Didn't Want You To See Occupy Wall Street Get Evicted."
 
US police arrest White House drive-by shooting suspect 16 Nov 2011 Barack Obama's apartment in the White house was hit by at least one bullet that cracked a window, US Secret Service has said. The bullets were thought to have been fired during a drive-by shooting that resulted in two bullets hitting the White House. One of the bullets was found impacted in the ballistic glass of an exterior window on the residential level where the president and his family live. Police on Wednesday night arrested a 21-year-old man [Oscar Ortega-Hernandez] in Pennsylvania in connection with the shooting.

One bullet smashed into a window of the living quarters of the executive mansion but was stopped by ballistic glass. Prosecutors say they're considering charges of attempted assassination, even though the incident presented no threat to the president.

[The description by the Park Police read, 'His right hand has a tattoo of three dots, he has a tattoo stating "Ortega" on his upper back, a tattoo on his right chest of rosary beads and hands clasped in prayer, a tattoo of folded hands on left chest, and the words "Israel" tattooed on left side of neck.] Pennsylvania State police on Wednesday arrested Ortega-Hernandez, according to an ABC news report. Police reportedly have asked demonstrators with the Occupy Wall Street movement encamped nearby if they have seen Ortega among them. [LOL! Found: bullet that smashed White House window --US police seek suspect after round from semi-automatic weapon reaches building's internal anti-ballistics glass --Friday: secret service officials discovered AK-47 rifle in abandoned car 16 Nov 2011 The US secret service has found a bullet from a semi-automatic rifle that broke a window at the White House, according to officials. The service has been investigating a shooting that occurred near the White House on Friday. It discovered two bullets on Tuesday, one of which had smashed a window before being stopped by anti-ballistic glass protecting the building's interior; the other round was found outside the building. Shots were fired between two vehicles on Constitution Avenue, about half a mile from the White House, shortly after 9pm on Friday.

U.S. Troops to Stay in Iraq as Trainers, Top Officer Says 16 Nov 2011 Some United States forces will remain as military trainers on 10 bases in Iraq even after an end-of-year deadline for all American troops to be out of the country, Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a Senate committee on Tuesday. The forces will provide training in counterterrorism to Iraqis and also instruction in operating American-made tanks and F-16 fighter jets, General Dempsey said. Overall, there will be about 16,000 American Embassy personnel in Iraq, including a large number of civilian contractors as security guards.

Report: U.S. Air Force receives new 15-ton bunker buster bombs --Massive bombs are capable of destroying underground targets, such as Iran's nuclear sites 16 Nov 2011 The U.S. Air Force has received new 30,000-pound bombs capable of destroying deep underground bunkers, the Bloomberg news agency reported. The U.S. Air Force reportedly started receiving the bombs in September. The bombs are six times bigger than the U.S. Air Force's current bunker-busters. According to the Bloomberg report, the Boeing company in August received a $32 million contract for eight of the bombs.

France summons Israeli ambassador over Gaza raid --Israeli envoy rebuked over Gaza raid which wounded French consul and family; incident added strains to already tense relationship between Israel and France. 16 Nov 2011 France's Foreign Ministry summoned Israel's ambassador on Wednesday over an air strike in Gaza that injured the French consul and his family on Sunday. The French consul, his wife and 13-year-old daughter were hit by shrapnel at their residence in Gaza during the strike on Sunday night.

Japan mulls over rice ban after radiation findings 17 Nov 2011 Japan is expected to announce its first ban on rice sales in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear disaster after samples showed radioactive contamination well above legal limits, officials said on Thursday. The findings will further worry nervous consumers, already fretting over the safety of domestic produce, despite its previous solid reputation. Authorities in Fukushima prefecture say rice produced near the stricken atomic power plant contained caesium they measured at 630 becquerels per kg.

WWF Russia seeks foster parents for 500 polar bears 15 Nov 2011 Under a new initiative by WWF Russia, individuals and companies can become a foster parent of a polar bear for a one-time contribution of 30,000 rubles (about $1,000). The money will be spent on conservation, protection and research of wild polar bears in the Russian Arctic, home to about 5,000-6,000 white bears or about a quarter of the worldwide polar bear population.
