Breaking: Attempted Assassination Charge in Shooting at White House, Prosecutor Says 17 Nov 2011 An Idaho man accused of firing two shots at the White House last week has been charged with attempting to assassinate President Obama or his staff. Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, made his first court appearance before a federal magistrate in Pittsburgh on Thursday, one day after he was arrested at a western Pennsylvania hotel. He will be taken back from a federal court in Pittsburgh to face the charges in Washington, D.C.
 
Hundreds of protesters march on Wall Street 17 Nov 2011 Hundreds of Occupy Wall Street protesters marched through New York's financial district toward the stock exchange on Thursday to protest economic inequality at the heart of American capitalism. Scores of police barricaded the narrow streets around the stock exchange and used batons to push the protesters onto the sidewalk as they marched from a nearby park in a bid to prevent financial workers from getting to their desks.
 
End night raids, house searches before Afghan deal: Karzai 16 Nov 2011 Afghanistan wants the United States and NATO to agree to stop carrying out night raids on Afghan homes as a precondition to signing a partnership deal with Washington, President Hamid Karzai said on Wednesday. The Afghan leader has said repeatedly he wants them stopped. "We want a strategic partnership but with specific conditions: our national integrity, no night raids, no house searches," Karzai told a meeting of around 2,000 Afghan political and community leaders in the capital city Kabul.
 
Jeff Butler Resigns from CL&P 17 Nov 2011 About three weeks after the October nor'easter than left more than 800,000 homes and businesses in the dark [*for days*], Jeffrey Butler, president and chief operating officer, of CL&P has resigned, effective immediately. "We reluctantly accepted Jeff's resignation," Northeast Utilities' Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Charles Shivery said in a statement.
