Featured panelists for this very important event will be: Karima Al-Amin, activist, civil attorney, and the wife of Imam Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin; Faye Bellamy, a former SNCC officer who worked closely with H. Rap Brown during one of America's most turbulent revolutionary periods; and Professor Akinyele Umojo, who undertook an in depth study of COINTELPRO and how it targeted Imam Jamil from the days when he was known as H. Rap Brown.
 
El-Hajj Mauri' Saalakhan, Director of Operations for The Peace Thru Justice Foundation, will conclude the forum with information on why the case of Imam Jamil is so important, and offer advice on initiatives that concerned citizens can undertake to help breathe new life into a campaign for justice.
 
The forum will be moderated by Imam Khalid Fattah Griggs, resident imam of The Community Mosque of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

A Peoples Assembly to Confront Preemptive Prosecution via the War on Terror, the War on Drugs, and Anti-Immigrant Legislation in the 21st Century

Preemptive Prosecution = The investigation, prosecution and imprisonment of persons by US law enforcement agencies and legal strategies based on religion, country of origin, political beliefs, and alleged aspirational intent - but not necessarily on material actions

Join organizers, legal advocates, families, academics, and human rights activists to build alliances between communities affected by preemptive prosecution, racial profiling, and criminalization.

GOALS:
- To build a common understanding of the post-9/11 political climate & context regarding preemptive prosecution and racial profiling
- To connect the tactics & strategies of the War on Terror, the War on Drugs, and anti- immigrant legislation
- To connect the Southern historical and racial context to these strategies
- To build alliances across communities targeted by law enforcement agencies, including but limited to immigrant communities, Muslim communities, and Black communities 
- To lay the foundation for a legal advocacy infrastructure connected to social movements
