The report below in the links says that India tops the commonwealth nations in the number of underweight children. India is not a sub-sahara nation which has been ravaged by merciless imperialistic exploitation. India is country that sends satellites into earth's orbit, that is an atomic power, that is a superpower in software solutions, that is second fastest growing economy in the world, that has the fastest growing number of billionaires, that has corporate sector which is making big deals all over the world and acquiring big corporate houses of Europe and Americas, and many more. Is there any country in the world that has all the testimonials that India possess, yet has so grinding poverty?
If u have any idea, please communicate.

Martial arts 'Agni' paved way for Military Martial Music as India says good bye to Commonwealth Games!Yes, it looks rather quite in context and reference to the Corporate war on going, the Ethnic Cleansing in the EXCLUSIVE Economy and the Military option to deal with the Majority Masses BAHUJAN and Mulnivasi, the Aboriginal Indigenous and Minority communities, the Black Untouchables in India.

India created History in Commonwealth games thanks to the Excellent performances of the Players and the debate to become sports Power is HYPED  as Strategic Iconic Marketing once again.

Whose Glory is it?

The Common Corrupt Wealth is covered up with finest Finishiing after all.

We may NEVER know how the national Resources and Revenues have been diverted to showcase the so called Growth, Military Might and American Zionsit Link.

Would the successful Commonwealth Games would do any Good to Indian Sports and Culture?

Or it remains as another BOOST to India Incs , MNCs and LPG Mafia which has used IPL Cricket Casino?

Is the Sports management INCLUSIVE enough to represent the talents deprived and sidelined?

These Questions have to be dealt with the BLITZ ceremonies being telecast LIVE!

The Poor, Hawkers, Workers and Slumdwellers driven out of the national Capital region seems ABSENT in the National Psyche of PRIDE and PREJUDICE.

Every Subaltern Issue, evey question dealing with Aboriginal landscape and Ethnic Cleansing, Caste Discrimination, Displacement and Deportation, Persecution, nationalities and Identities IRITATE the Ruling Brahaminical Class who pose DEMOCRATE and Nationalist, Educated and Academic but reduce themselves in RIGID Practioners of Hatred, Violence, Defacing, Demonisation, discrimination, Intolerance, Reactionary Behaviour who may not imagine any Challnge from the NON Brahamins , specilly the SC, OBC, ST and Minority communities!

India may not COMPETE sports powers like China, South korea, Russia, USA, Africa or Latin America as the ARENA of Sports is not above the Economic Social Exclusion, Persecution and Repression!

Would Commonwealth Games in New delhi whoich DIVERTED National resources in the Corrupt Political Hegemony system just to showcase the National capital, change the Equation?

Is the Development Drive is reflected in any other aprt of the Country?

Will the Sports Infrastructure would be made nationwide with Regional demographic balance?

Markets in the national capital Thursday suffered massive losses after being ordered shut for the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, traders said.

"It's been a huge business loss for markets. Particularly since it is festival time. We will see a loss of Rs.300 crore," Confederation of All India Traders Association's (CAIT) secretary general Praveen Khandelwal told IANS.

All the major markets like Connaught Place, Khan Market , Lajpat Nagar, Chandni Chowk, Greater Kailash I and II, Karol Bagh, Defence Colony and South Extension were shut for the day.

He also said that the general business during the Games also saw a dip.

"I don't see any reason for closing the markets. On one side, the Delhi government says they are promoting the shopping but they virtually blocked the foreign tourists from visiting the markets with tight security," Khandelwal said.

Anil Bhargava, a trader in Khan Market, said: "Many traders in Connaught Place, Khan Market, South Extension had stocked various items like 'Pashmina' shawls, handmade accessories and articles which generally attracts the foreign tourists. Out of the few thousands who came for the Games, only a few hundreds visited the markets and purchased. This led to a major loss for traders."

The Delhi Police wanted the markets to be closed as they didn't have enough police force.

"It is hard to give enough security to the markets so as a precaution we have asked them to close," a police officer said.

Jagmohan Sethi, president of the Greater Kailash-I M-Block market, said: "The loss will be more since both the opening and closing ceremonies are held in the first 15 days of October, which is the time when Delhiites spend the most in shopping."

With restaurants, malls and movie theatres, which doesn't fall under the Games route, being allowed to operate Thursday, traders alleged that it was a partial move.

"Many traders feel it is utter partiality that just the markets are shut while some of the restaurants and cinema halls are open," Sethi said.

India says good bye to Commonwealth Games

After cultural showcase, it was the time for the big athletes who made the CWG a rip-roaring success to make their way to the middle. None of this would have been possible if not for the relentless effort of the fifty thousand plus volunteers, who made sure they marshalled the CWG to stupendous success. It was fitting then the Closing Ceremony had something special for the volunteers.
There were smiles all around and even Sonia Gandhi cheered specially for the volunteers. These heroes were followed by the flag bearers of the 71 participating nations. 12 days ago, these nations had walked into the big event with a spirit to win, to make friends and to win hearts. And they all did exactly that. There were 2 world-records and over a 100 Commonwealth Games records broken over the fortnight and yet the biggest winner was the world of sport. When the heroes of para sports walked in, it just showed sport knows no barriers and no hurdles. And when Gagan Narang walked in waving the Indian flag alongside the hero of the final day Saina Nehwal, there were loud cheers of celebration coming in from the stands. And why not! India finished in second position ahead of powerful contingents like England and Canada.

There were many moments that defined the CWG 2010. It is virtually impossible to single out a few of them. Yet, the organisers managed to capture the moment of the moments in a crisply done film that was supremely packaged.

Martial arts 'Agni' paved way for Military Martial Music . The crowd at the Nehru stadium stood up to salute the band. The precision and timing of the band was simply impeccable. It was quite similar to what we see during 'beating the retreat' after January 26 celebrations. And when the tune switched to 'saare jahan se acha', there was a roar in the stands. Military martial music was a fabulous appetizer to what was coming up straightaway.
An attempt to revive the national song, Vande Mataram. It is always said children are the future of any country and therefore it was only apt that over 2010 school children lined up to perform the revival of the national song in the year 2010. India's biggest strength has been unity in diversity and Vande Mataram is just a classic example of why it is such a vibrant nation. These children who performed for the Rahman version will never forget this moment in their lifetime nor will the sixty thousand spectators in the stands nor will those millions of Indians watching on television.
It has been a glorious fortnight of sport and what better way to showcase it than with a performance dedicated to the glory of sport. Titled Agni, this 8-minute martial arts feast featured dancers from south to north to west to north-east of India. Indian culture at its very best. If the 'Great Indian journey' stole the early part of the opening ceremony, 'Agni' simply lit up the mood. It was mind-blowing and passionate and carried the real spirit of sport in the form of various martial arts.
The Nehru stadium has been painted in blue and the early feeling is the closing ceremony has all the makings of an absolute classic. CWG creative director worked for over 18 months to get these two special days ready and why not! The big dignitaries have arrived and the Closing ceremony. CGF Chief Mike Fennell, CWG OC Chairman Suresh Kalmadi, UPA President Sonia Gandhi, Prince Edward representing Queen and then the Chief Guest of the evening Sri Lankan President Mahenda Rajapaksha. And finally, when the Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh stepped in, there was a huge roar in the stands.
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is filled to the last seat. After the grand opening ceremony, fans just can't wait to have more. The biggies are already there and in the next few minutes, India will again showcase its might. Watch out for some supreme items this evening. Martial music should be an absolute stealer. The Scottish performance will be the dark horse and the universal music will be truly special as India says bye to the sweet shera.
12 days of sporting extravaganza where India showcased itself to the world. After all the pre-CWG negativity, the Games itself were so full of energy. All good things have to come to an end and today, India will bid farewell to the CWG 2010. The opening ceremony was simply spectacular. Get set for a closing ceremony that promises to match it or maybe even beat it. So, folks, fasten your seat belts and get ready for the action. Live updates and images will be right up for you on MSN.
Another highlight of the 50-minute show will be Vande Mataram to be performed by 2,010 schoolchildren. While the spectacular opening extravaganza of the Games on October 3 had laid emphasis on traditional dance forms and instruments, the closing ceremony is being packed with heavy dose of popular songs including Chak De India to be rendered by Sukhwinder, Allah ke Bande by Kailash Kher and Ab Ke Sawan by Shubha Mudgal.
Indian idol winner Sriram is also set to enthral the audience at the cultural programme. esides this, 400 artistes from Scotland will perform to the tunes of traditional Bagpiper music at the Stadium inviting all to visit Glasgow for the 2014 Games.
"The Scottish team will perform for 10 minutes in the closing ceremony. They will showcase their traditional music and dance," said Bharat Bala, creative director of the event.
The show will kick off with about 800 artistes drawn from Kerala, Punjab, Manipur, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu who will perform Indian martial arts. Dubbed as 'Agni', the martial art show is being conceived by the well-known choreographer Samudra.
"The closing ceremony will be different from the opening event with more music and songs.

Popular singers like Sunidhi Chauhan and Shankar Mahadevan will perform in the show," said an organiser. A laser show coupled with spectacular fireworks will be part of the grand finale. The laser equipment have been imported from Europe to create special effects like sea waves and graphics with beams to light up the sky. However, Commonwealth Games theme song composer A R Rahaman will not be present at the closing event.
Don't take coins, helmets, glass containers, backpacks or bottles along with you to watch the closing ceremony of Commonwealth Games tomorrow. These are among 40 items banned by Delhi Police to spectators heading to Jawaharlal Nehru stadium to watch the gala closing ceremony. One cannot also take firearms, sharp-edged weapons, toy-gun, handicam and video cameras, eatables except baby food, torn-up papers, crackers, matchbox, umbrella, spray paint, skate board, laser light, balloon and flag pole. The prohibited list also include animals, pushcart, hockey stick, tiffin box and whistle.

The Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium will turn into a virtual fortress for the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony on Thursday as hundreds of armed men will be deployed around the structure and spectators will have to undergo checks at four security points.
Around 7,500 security personnel will be deployed in and around the stadium, which has a capacity of 60,000 seats, while IAF choppers will survey the skies and snipers at rooftops will keep a hawk-eye vigil.

A four-layered security cordon will be thrown around the stadium for the closing ceremony. It has 19 entry points where card readers, door frame metal detectors and X-Ray baggage machines have been installed.

Mobile quick reaction teams will be deployed on the outer perimeter of the venue besides keeping a close watch through CCTV surveillance. At the outer cordon of the stadium, traffic will be stopped and access controlled.
At the middle cordon, securitymen will channelise the spectators to their designated seats while in the inner cordon, the barcode reading of tickets will take place and the spectators' photos captured.
At the centre will be the exclusion zone which is in the 30m radius of the stadium, where spectators and guests will undergo a check through door frame metal detectors and X-Ray scanning besides manual searching.
Only those with valid parking stickers will be allowed near the stadium.

Delhi police yesterday came out with an advisory for those headed to the stadium for the closing ceremony, saying it has learnt lessons from the difficulties faced by spectators during the inaugural extravaganza.
Its advisory include information on blockage and restrictions on roads and which metro station to alight on if one has to enter the stadium through a particular gate.

There are three metro stations -- Jorbagh, JLN and Jangpura -- near the stadium and for example, if someone has to enter the stadium through Gate No 6, he has to get down at Jorbagh station and not any other station.

Sex with boss best way to the top: Poll

NEW YORK: Having sex with the boss is the fastest way to get to the top, according to an increasing number of Americans.

The Adecco Group, a human-resources consulting firm, conducted a "Best Boss" survey, which revealed that 17% of US workers think having an affair with the boss can lead to a better position. And 7% of those surveyed confessed that they have actually done it.

The poll also found that one-third of workers is convinced he or she is smarter than the boss, the New York Post reported. Nearly 40% named Oprah Winfrey as their idea of a perfect boss, while 35% selected President Barack Obama and 28% said Donald Trump.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook chief, was one of the least-wanted bosses, picked by just 9% of those surveyed. He was joined by "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell and former BP honcho Tony Hayward.

The survey also found that the recession is actually bringing workers and bosses closer together, although usually in a platonic way.

But there's no love lost at quitting time. Just one in six workers interacts with his or her manager on social-networking sites, and a third of them wish they had never friended the boss at all.

India retained its number two spot in the overall medals tally on the penultimate of the Commonwealth Games with the men's doubles pair winning the table tennis gold in the evening after some disappointment when defending champion Sharat Kamal crashed out of the singles' event.

India, which had been in the second spot in the overall medal tally since the competitions began October 4, yielded the place to England earlier in the day with both tied on 32 gold but England had more silver medals.

But the victory of Sharat Kamal and Shubajit Saha in the men's doubles table tennis final over the Singaporean pair of Gao Ning and Yang Zi gave India the 33rd gold and took them ahead of England in what is turning out to be a prestigious neck-and-neck race.

With India contesting the badminton (women's singles) and hockey finals Thursday, it has a good chance of nosing England out and retaining its second spot in the overall medals tally. Australia, however, was way ahead with 69 gold in a whopping total tally of 158 medals.

There was disappointment for table tennis fans in the morning when reigning champion Sharat Kamal lost to Singaporean Yang 3-4 in the semifinals. India is assured of a bronze in the singles as Sharath will face compatriot Soumyadeep Roy in the third place play-off. Soumyadeep went down to top seed Gao 0-4 in the first semifinal.

Dope embarrassment

There was also some bad news on the athletic front where Rani Yadav failed the dope test after the 20 km walk. Rani tested positive for banned anabolic agent 19-Norandrosterone, the Commonwealth Games Federation said. The 20-year-old, who finished sixth in the competition Saturday, has provisionally been suspended pending a hearing.

This is the third positive test of the Games, Nigerian sprinter and women's 100m champion Oludamola Osayomi, and her team-mate, the 110m hurdler Samuel Okon, being the other two. Both tested positive for using the banned stimulant Methylexaneamine.

Osayomi has been stripped of her gold medal, and all her results in the Games nullified. Though the shooters did not win a gold Wednesday, their medal tally of 30 surpassed their Melbourne Games count of 27. However, they won 14 gold in Delhi while they had got 16 in Melbourne four years ago.

Pistol shooter Heena Sidhu missed the gold by 0.3 points and Samresh Jung settled for the bronze while Gagan Narang failed to qualify for the final of the 50 metre rifle prone individual event. Narang, however, emerged as the best shooter with four golds.

In the men's 25 metre standard pistol, Samresh won the bronze with a score of 559 while the gold went to Singapore's Bin Gai, who shot a total of 570. Trinidad and Tobago's Daniel Peter Rogers got the silver with a score of 563.

Australia thrash India 8-0 to win CWG men's hockey gold

Jason Wilson and Luke Doerner scored two goals apiece as world champion Australia thashed India 8-0 to win its fourth successive Commonwealth Games men's field hockey gold on Thursday.

Chris Ciriello, Simon Orchard, veteran Jamie Dwyer and Glenn Turner also contributed goals on either side of halftime against a clueless Indian defense.

Indian National Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were among a capacity crowd of 19,000 at the MDC Stadium, but they had little to cheer their home team.

The National Tri Colour seen on the aerostat during the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi on 14, October, 2010. Photo: V.V. Krishnan
20:20: Suresh Kalmadi begins his speech.
20:16: Singer Shaan with the mic and mascot Shera in tow. They are riding a modifed autorickshaw decorated with lights and flowers. Hold on, did I say modified autorickshaw?
20:15: PTI has this little nugget about India's rise in the CWG -
It all started with a sole bronze in 1934 in the second edition of the Commonwealth Games, and now India has finally breached the 100—mark in the medals tally of the event in the latest edition to occupy the second position in the overall standings.
20:05 Every once in a while the Scottish flag comes back on the screen. Of course, Glasgow, Scotland, will host the 20th Commonwealth Games in 2014.
20:02 The camera again pans to the Indian contingent. Samaresh Jung, ace shooter, has the camera on the ready to shoot some pictures for his scrapbook.
19:57: And one by one, the athletes from all the countries arrive.
19:50: The England squad takes a stroll round the stadium. Camera phones and digital cameras out in full force, the athletes not letting this opportunity to get a few stunning pictures go waste.
19:47: Shooter Gagan Narang leads the Indian contingent, waving the flag.
19:45: The foreign delegations enter the stadium, one final time before they head home.
19:32: School children dance to Vande Mataram. The children are covered in orange, green and white powder, arranged to form a giant national flag.
19:31: The stadium is lit in blue, which then changes to a sharp purple. Lighting effects at its best.
19:30: Sare Jahaan Se Acha fills the air.. The crowd loves it.
19:29: The band plays 'Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja', a song which stirs patriotic fervour.
19:26: The drummers have got the crowd involved. Spectators clap in synch with the drums.
19:23: The bagpipes stop, and the drums take over. Bagpipes and drums usually remind me of the nu-metal band Korn. But this is as far removed from Korn as you can get.
19:19: Back to more pleasant events. Bagpipes! Upbeat tunes performed by a huge band. You can't see it, but I'm breaking into my Scottish accent!
19:16: Some rather disturbing news for Indian badminton fans. Jwala Gutta, who won the doubles gold with Ashwini Ponnappa, has slammed V.K. Verma, President, Badminton Association of India, for not congratulating her after her victory. "We have got support from the government but don't know how much (support) we have got from the association," Jwala said. Not mincing words.
19:13: We have a display of many Indian martial art forms. All performed to haunting music. Shivers down me spine.
19:09: Kalari artists are working their magic, and the show has begun!
19:06: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrives to loud applause from the crowd. He is seated next to the Sri Lankan President. Alongside are Hamid Ansari and Sonia Gandhi.
19:04: Chairperson, UPA. Sonia Gandhi. Spotted.
19:03: Announcement of cash awards for victorious Indian athletes have begun.
PTI has this - The Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) will give Rs 10 lakh to every gold medalist, Rs 7.5 lakh to every silver medalist and Rs 5 lakh to every bronze medalist, an official statement said.
18:59: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is in the crowd too. So is Sports Minister M.S. Gill. We are making a game of this. The 'spot the VIP' contest is on, and I'm beating my colleagues hollow!
'Village News', by the way, is a daily published by the CWG Organising Committee.
18:54: Here's some fun news. In a survey conducted among athletes at the Games Village, Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar has been voted the 'Most Popular' athlete. The survey was conducted by tabloid 'Village News'
18:50: The Nehru stadium is filled with VIPs. Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader, is in the stands.
18:47: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa is here. He is the guest of honour at the ceremony. Looks crisp in a white suit.
18:46: The commentators remind us that this is the first time India has won 100 medals at the CWG. Quite a record.
18:45: Dignitaries continue to arrive at the Nehru Stadium. We have Vice- President Hamid Ansari, who alights from a fancy white sedan.
18:41: The final day of the CWG had a couple of star guests - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur. The Prime Minister watched the hockey final where India were thrashed by Australia, and his wife chose the badminton final where Saina made history.
18:36: Saina looked a tad nervous in the first set loss, but recovered wonderfully to stage a famous win. The nation is proud of its sports hero.
18:32: This is what Saina had to say about her victory, calling the three-setter the toughest win of her career -
"It was the toughest match of my career. It was a big test for me because I have never won from a match point down.
But I am happy I could win it for my country in front of my home crowd. I am proud to have taken India to the second position in the medals tally with my gold medal win."
18:27: So India finish second thanks to a last minute gold from Saina in badminton. Pulsating finish to India's campaign.
18:25: Returning to our discussion on the success of the Games, PTI has this report about Interpol lauding the security agencies involved -
The Interpol has commended Indian security agencies for their "collaborative" efforts with international law enforcement agencies in ensuring the security of participants and visitors flocking the national capital for the Commonwealth Games.
18:24: Irene Kosgei from Kenya presented the gold medal. A marathon winner from Kenya. What are the odds?
18:22: Before the ceremony begins, we have one last medal ceremony. Women's marathon. Who presents the medals? OC Chairman Suresh Kalmadi
18:17: So for all the naysayers, this is it, right here. Didn't think India could it off? Think again. Proved wrong.
18:15: No unparliamentary language will be tolerated at the stadium, says the announcer. Duly noted.
18:12: Shankar Mahadevan will sing the theme song of the Games, and the programme has been put together by Shyam Benegal, Bharat Bala and Prasoon Joshi
18:10: I've been told that the Closing Ceremony will be a crispier affair, not as lengthy as the Opening Ceremony.
The Jawarhar Lal Nehru stadium is lit up and we're set for the grand finale.
And we are now at the end of festivities. Welcome, one final time, to our coverage of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
