Oct. 13, 2010 - Educational and motivational, yet delivered in a dynamic and entertaining forum, the Northern California Passing the Torch of Success on 10.10.10 was simply superb. The sold-out event tantalized us with names and faces of prominent Iranian-Americans from various fields and walks of life. All those featured embodied the passion, dedication and achievements of our community and made us tremendously proud. These ten outstanding individuals inspired us to passionately pursue our dreams, set our goals as high as the stars, and give back to our world community.

PAAIA Names Thanksgiving Holiday Week "Persian Thanks"

Oct. 21, 2010 - Persian Thanks is a new PAAIA program that embraces American culture—Persian style. Starting in 2010, we are mobilizing PAAIA Chapters nationwide to take Persian food to homeless shelters on Thanksgiving Day--or on any day during the week, and hope that the "Persian Thanks Week" will become an Iranian American tradition. This is our way of showing that we are grateful to have a home away from our ancestral homeland, that we care about the less fortunate among us, and that we want to share a delicious part of our cultural heritage with our fellow Americans.

San Diego Rallies in Support of Farrah Douglas
for Carlsbad City Council

October 13, 2010, San Diego, CA - Nearly 40 guests gathered at a private fundraising event on September 25th in support of Farrah Douglas' candidacy for Carlsbad City Council. The event, held at the home of Ali and Haida Mojdehi was organized by PAAIA's San Diego chapter leaders, Maryam Famourzadeh and Haida Mojdehi. The evening provided an opportunity for the guests to meet with Farrah and learn about her bid to become the first Iranian American elected to public office in San Diego County as well as the only woman running for City Council in the City of Carlsbad.

October 19, 2010 - Hello, my name is Sheiveh Nakhshab Jones and I am a doctoral candidate for the College of Education and Organizational Leadership at the University of La Verne. I am currently looking to interview 1.5-generation Iranian American women leaders as part of my dissertation research. The purpose of the study is to describe the personal constructs for 1.5 generation, Iranian American women in leadership positions who fit the following criteria:

  • Came to the United States during early adolescence from 1978 to 1985 as a result of the Islamic revolution
  • Is now in the age range of 31 to 43 years old
  • Holds a position of leadership/decision making in current job

US Travel Warning for Iran

October 13, 2010, Washington, D.C. - The U.S. State Department issued a new travel warning on October 8th for U.S. citizens considering travel to Iran. It supersedes a warning that was issued in March of 2010 and reiterates that dual nationals may encounter difficulty leaving the country.
