RS.156 CRORE TO PURBA MEDINIPUR DISTRICT FOR RAJIV GANDHI VAIDYUTIKIKARAN YOJANA
Bajkul: Sunday, March 14, 2010.

Central Government has allotted Rs.156 crore to Purba Medinipur
district for Rajiv Gandhi Vaidyutikikaran Yojana and work under the
scheme has started in different areas. This information was given
yesterday at a seminar on Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign at
Bajkul Milani Maha Vidyalaya ground under Bhagabanpur-I of Purba
Medinipur district.

Shri Ajit Panda, Karmadhakshya, Bhagabanpur-I Panchayat Samity said
that in Bhagabanpur-I block work has started to provide electricity
connection to each moujas. The scheme to provide power connection free
of cost to BPL families has been initiated. However, the BPL list been
not finalized people in the state are not in a position to take
advantage of different Centrally sponsored schemes. He also said that
Rs.16000 creores have been allocated by the Centre for developing the
rural infrastructure in the district. Although there has been a number
of schemes to provide housing, electricity and other facilities to
rural people and there has been mechanism to implement them in a
decentralized manner, non-finalization of BPL list, there has been
undue delay in their implementation and crores of rupees are lying
unspent in various departments, Shri Panda observed. He also said that
scheme related work should be implemented in a time bound manner. He
hailed the idea of holding programmes like Bharat Nirman Public
Information Campaign to create mass awareness about different
developmental and welfare schemes.

Sk. Harun Rashid, Sabhapati, Bhagabanpur-I Panchayat Samity called for
reaching out the benefits of the schemes to the remote rural areas. At
the same time it has to be monitored whether the genuine beneficiaries
are getting the advantages of the schemes. He also touched upon the
various schemes like Sajal Dhara for Rural Drinking Water Supply,
NREHM for improving the health of the rural people and total
sanitation campaign. Highlighting the role of the SHGs in bring about
socio-economic transformation in the rural areas Sk. Rashid said that
for women's empowerment and capacity building training for SHG members
has been arranged. And this will definitely improve their economic
condition in future, he said.
