Shri Salman Khurshid to Inaugurate national Conference on 'Inclusive &
Responsible- the Next Face of India Inc.'
New Delhi: March 23, 2010

Shri Salman Khurshid, Minister for Corporate Affairs, will inaugurate
here tomorrow a National Conference on 'Inclusive & Responsible: The
Next Face of India Inc.' It is being organized by the CII-ITC Centre
of Excellence for Sustainable Development in partnership with the
Ministry of Corporate Affairs and National Foundation for Corporate
Governance. The Conference will discuss and focus on two very specific
aspects: Mainstreaming Voluntary Reporting & Disclosures; and Creating
Markets for Inclusive Business. Shri. R. Bandyopadhyay, Secretary,
Ministry of Corporate Affairs will be the Guest of Honour.

The other key speakers at the National Conference on 'Inclusive &
Responsible: The Next Face of India Inc.' include: Shri Y. C.
Deveshwar, Past President, CII and Chairman, CII-ITC Centre of
Excellence for Sustainable Development Advisory Council and Chairman,
ITC Ltd.; Shri Rajesh V. Shah, Past President, CII and Co-Chairman &
Managing Director, Mukand Ltd.; Dr. Jamshed J. Irani, Past President,
CII and Director, Tata Sons Ltd.; Shri Jitesh Khosla, Officer on
Special Duty, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs and Shri G. N.
Venkataraman, President, ICWAI.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs had released two important documents
during the India Corporate Week in December 2009 : Corporate
Governance Voluntary Guidelines 2009; and Corporate Social
Responsibility Voluntary Guidelines 2009. These documents seek to
enhance accountability and responsibility of Indian companies, through
voluntary uptake by businesses. The release of the two guidelines is
indeed a step forward in providing policy direction to Indian
companies on issues of responsibility and accountability.

It is in this context that to support the efforts of the Ministry of
Corporate Affairs on the two voluntary guidelines, the CII-ITC Centre
of Excellence for Sustainable Development is organizing the National
Conference on Inclusive & Responsible: The Next Face of India Inc.'

Ministry of Water Resources
Web enabled Ground Water Information System dedicated to the Nation
New Delhi: March 23, 2010

A "Web enabled Ground Water Information System" was dedicated to the
Nation on "World Water Day". Jointly developed by  Central Ground
Water Board (CGWB) and NIC, the System provides ground water related
spatial and non spatial data in seamless manner to the users through
internet. This web system has revolutionized the whole concept of
ground water information availability to the citizens as well as other
professional organizations. Now even a farmer can access ground water
information for the village through the e-kiosks being set up all over
the country.

Dedicating the Web Enabled Water Ground Information System to the
nation yesterday, the Union Minister for Water Resources Shri Pawan
Kumar Bansal said that the system would provide all the stakeholders
access to various thematic layers as well as the nationwide database
generated by CGWB on ground water level and water quality. This
initiative would help more effective sharing of information relating
to ground water resource availability and water level trend with user
groups, planners and administrators.
The Minister asked all other Central and State Government Departments
which are repositories of ground water data to come forward to pool it
on the web based knowledge platform for the benefit of all
stakeholders.

The Ground Water Information System provides access to various
thematic layers as well as the nationwide database on ground water
levels and water quality being monitored by CGWB. Efforts are being
made to integrate the ground water related data from state agencies as
well as various central agencies. The stakeholders involved in ground
water development and management can have access and visualize the
ground water condition in the country through Framework Service
Oriented Architecture over Enterprise Spatial Data Infrastructure
around Multi-layer GIS. The system is currently available in
Government-to-Government (G2G) domain for planning and decision-making
for management of ground water resource.

The Salient Features of the system are :-

web enabled environment around SOI reference system in 1 :2,50,000
scale
•       Data mirroring and data update with staging server at CGWB
•       Rich spatial & Non-spatial Data content on ground water resources

•       Derived Information on Ground Water
•       Ground Water Potential
•       Online access to base data on Ground Water across the country
including water level and water quality
•       Integrated watershed boundaries (as per CGWB)

•       Role based user management
•       Metadata
•       Pre-defined Queries
•       FAQ

Ministry of Water Resources accords the highest priority to protect
the water resources and emphasis is being given on collective
responsibility of all stakeholders, whether individual, communities,
institutions, non government organizations etc. Concurrently, steps
shall be taken up to accelerate assessment and monitoring of water
quality at local, regional and national levels using watershed as a
management unit. Industries, Institutions and Government should work
hand in hand in providing low-cost solutions for abatement of
pollution in water resources.

Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports
Sports Minister Sanctions Financial Assistance to Former Football
Player M. Bharathan and Physically Challenged Sportsperson Prabir
Sarkar
New Delhi: March 23, 2010

Dr. M.S. Gill, Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports has
sanctioned from National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons an ex-gratia
assistance of Rs.1.00 lakh to Shri M. Bharathan, a former football
player, who is living in indigent conditions and Rs. 1.50 lakh to Shri
Prabir Sarkar, a physically challenged sportsperson, for procurement
of an artificial limb.

Shri Bharathan had played football at national level and international
level from 1973 to 1975. He had played in football matches for Santosh
Trophy and Merdeka Cup. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports came
to know from news reports that Shri Bharathan is running a kiosk for
his livelihood. Taking into consideration his financial position, the
Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports has sanctioned ex-gratia payment
of Rs.1.00 lakh to Shri Bharathan.

Shri Sarkar had lost his left leg in a rail accident when he was four
years old. Despite being physically challenged, he took active part in
Games and won many medals in the sports competitions for disabled at
national level and international level. Among his many sporting
achievements, he had secured 1st position in 100 metre run in 8th and
9th National Games for the Disabled held in 2006 and 2007 and he got
silver medal in long jump in 8th FESPIC Games held in Busan (South
Korea) in 2002.

The Ministry has received a request from him for financial help for
procurement of an artificial limb. He has informed the Ministry that
the cost of artificial limb will be about Rs.4.50 lakh and he has
arranged Rs.3.00 lakh. Therefore, he has approached the Ministry for
sanctioning the differential amount. Considering his request, the
Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports has sanctioned Rs.1.50 lakh to
Shri Prabir Sarkar, for procurement of artificial limb, from National
Welfare Fund for Sportspersons.

The Scheme of National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons provides for
lump sum financial assistance to outstanding sportspersons of the
past, who are facing financial distress.

Final result of Tax Assistant ( Income Tax & Central Excise)
Examination 2009 announced
New Delhi: March 23, 2010

The Staff Section Commission has announced the final result of Tax
Assistant (Income Tax & Central Excise) Examination 2009 held on 13th
December, 2009 except Andhra Pradesh and one centre in Allahabad (UP)
and Tax Assistant (Income Tax & Central Excise) where
re-examination-2009, was held on 7th February, 2010. (840 candidates
have been recommended for appointment to the post of Tax Assistant
(Income Tax & Central Excise). Details are available on the Website:

In the examination conducted on 13th December, 2009, 2152 candidates
qualified and in the Re-examination held on 7th February, 2010, 22
candidates qualified in the written part of the examination for
appearing in the Skill Test in Data Entry Speed in Computer.  A total
of 2174 candidates were qualified for appearing in Skill Test held on
6th & 7th March, 2010.

Detailed results and marks secured by the candidates who were called
for the skill test will also be available on the website shortly.
