It is apparent from the following story that US support for two states to sove
Palestine problem is hypocritical and they are not exerting enough pressure
such sanction on US aid financial and military to force Israel to stop new
settlements and declare Independent Palestine state. Arab world also want
vacation of all occupied Arab territory by Israel devoured in contravention
of US charter but US is silent about that.Looks like they are interested
to keep the problem linger on indefinitely.

Netanyahu shrugs off Obama call for 2 states
Agencies

WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama voiced support for creation
of a Palestinian state in talks yesterday with Israeli Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who held back from endorsing the main
cornerstone of Washington's Mideast policy.

"We talked about restarting serious negotiations on issues of
Israel and the Palestinians," Obama said, adding that it was in the
interests of both sides "to achieve a two-state solution." Obama,
speaking along with Netanyahu to reporters in the Oval Office, also
reminded Israel of its commitment, under a 2003 US-backed peace
road map to cease settlement activity in the occupied West Bank.
Netanyahu, in his remarks, reiterated that he supported
self-government for the Palestinians but made no mention of a
state, a position underscoring a rare rift in US-Israeli relations.

Which will be worse & more degrading. which will mean Pakistanis killing own citizen Pakistanis by drones of outsiders. Let me elaborate on this problem...........what has been happening is: ......the stoopid Americans......pay a lot of money, like MILLIONS of dollars.......for "on the ground Intelligence" and greedy Pakhtoons & even greedy Taliban.....take the millions & "Provide ground Intelligence".......to the sucker Americans in order to "earn their blood-money" by pointing fingers at totally innocent Pakhtoons, gathering at a house, home or a building for a tea party, a Pathan get-together party, or a pathan screwing of 'young boys/screwing of goats party.......and the cowboy, macho Americans actually think there is a gathering of imaginary "Al-Qaeeda/Militants/terrorists meeting/gathering" and launch their mass-murdering drones....to kill these completely innocent people along wioth more collatoral innocents.......thinking they have stuck a great
blow at imaginary "Al-FARTA"...but they only kill innocents & rapidly multiply thousands of anti-american enemies...........& nothing else....QED

Now for thiis fabulous advise, the US government must thank me & cut me at least a $10 million dollar check. Better than paying the stoopid "Pakhtoon ground intelligence!!!"

Drones attack in FATA may have killed a few high-profile al-Qaeda and
Taliban leaders but have caused collateral damage killing women and
children. On the whole drones' attacks have been counter-productive
for one that Pakistan's sovereignty is violated and secondly when
Pakistan looks helpless, this emboldens the militants, as it gives an
impression of weakness of the government as well as armed forces that
they cannot safeguard territorial sovereignty of the country. Pakistan
has, therefore, asked Washington for ownership of US drones that carry
out attacks on its territory. "Democracy doesn't believe in half
measures. We have asked for the ownership of the drones," President
Zardari said, when asked about reports that the US has agreed to pass
control of drone aircraft to Islamabad. Speaking in London after talks
with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Zardari said Islamabad was
"negotiating terms" with the US over the drones, which have long been
a source of tension between Washington and Islamabad. Meanwhile,
Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, at a Senate
hearing said that Pakistan had asked surveillance support missions by
US unmanned aircraft. But another report says that Pakistani officials
have pressed to have direct control over the drones while US
intelligence and military officials have offered greater access to the
data collected from unmanned surveillance drones.

Rubbishing media reports that Pakistan had been given joint control of
armed American drones on its territory, Major General Athar Abbas
spokesman for the armed forces said Washington never made such an
offer to it. But the US administration does not feel any qualms over
its disinformation or double speak. In the past, late General and
president Ayub Khan who had excellent relations with the US had to
write "Friends not Masters", to show his disenchantment with the US
administration when it betrayed him during war with India. The US had
not only stopped military aid but also economic aid instead of helping
Pakistan in the hour of need. Late Bhutto had initially good relations
with the US but because it interfered to tell him that Pakistan should
not harbour ambitions of becoming a nuclear power that he had to write
"Myth of independence". Anyhow, despite all aberrations and 'sins' of
the US administration each and every Pakistani ruler seemed to have
worked at the pleasure of the US, and when he resisted, he was shown
the door either through mass movement or an intrigue. The problem is
that Pakistan depends on the US for economic and military aid, and
even IMF and the World Bank would not approve loans for Pakistan
unless there is nod from the US administration. It is because of this
dependency syndrome that our defence minister had in the recent past
said that US drones do not take off from Pakistani soil, and Pakistan
has only allowed the landing of the drones. One is amazed on the
statement because when the drones land in Pakistan then they must have
taken off to go to some other destination. The US must understand that
despite being friends, allies and also partners in war on terror, the
US should respect the sovereignty of Pakistan, otherwise it will
further erode its credibility and popularity which is already at the
lowest ebb.

Interview with Bolivia's foreign minister: `Communitarian socialism

Interview with Bolivia's foreign minister David Choquehuanca by Patricia
Bravo and Cris González, translated from the original article in the
March 20, 2009, edition of Punto Final (Chile) by David Montoute.
Bolivia's new ``Political Constitution of the State'', approved by
referendum on January 25, 2009, by 61.4% of the vote and announced on
February 7, is clearly of transcendental importance for the refoundation
of Bolivia. The recognition of individual and collective rights, popular
participation, the principle of equality and the end of all types of
exclusion and discrimination are all present in the new constitutional text.
It establishes the creation of "a Unified Social State of Law whose
character would be Plurinational Communitarian, free, independent,
sovereign, democratic, intercultural, with decentralised autonomous
departments, regions, municipalities and indigenous circumscriptions".

Why Pakistan's military helped Talibanise Swat
    <http://links.org.au/node/1052>

By Farooq Sulehria
May 17, 2009 -- The mass exodus from Swat is making headlines globally.
Over a million have been displaced. This is the worst humanitarian
crisis since the Rwanda tragedy in 1990s. The explanation offered is
that this is necessary to flush the Taliban out of Swat's lush, green
valley in Pakistan's north. This military operation, launched in order
to stabilise the US occupation of Afghanistan and its so-called "war on
terror", is hardly mentioned in the corporate media. On the contrary,
major US newspapers have been invoking the fear that Pakistan's nuclear
weapons might fall into the hands of the Taliban. Is this a story
planted by the CIA?

Indian communists: India must end support for genocide in Sri Lanka
and the elite coup in Nepal <http://links.org.au/node/1049>

By Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation
May 11, 2009 -- A shameful spectacle of opportunism is being played out
in Indian politics even as Sri Lanka is waging a chilling ``final
solution'' to its Tamil national question. In the name of a war to
eliminate the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Mahinda
Rajapakse's regime in Sri Lanka is waging war on the Tamil people.
Independent observers, international rights groups and even journalists
have been prohibited from covering the reality of the war. Conservative
estimates, trickling through, put civilian deaths at a minimum of 5000,
including at least 500 children, since January. At least 100,000
civilians are estimated wounded. The Sri Lankan army is using cluster
bombs and chemical warfare in blatant violation of the Geneva
Conventions. Tens of thousands of innocent Tamils are caught up in the
war zone, starved of food, water and medicine. Some 100,000 others,
fleeing in desperation are being rounded up behind barbed wire fences in
``camps'', where by all accounts they will be kept under detention for
three years. Sri Lankan journalists questioning their government's
brutal policy have been silenced by assassination and arrest.
International journalists reporting on the detention camps for Tamil
civilians have been detained and deported.

Solidarity from Timor Leste: `Support the people and legitimate

Solidarity message for the people and legitimate government of Nepal, by
Luta Hamutuk, Timor Leste
Dili, Timor Leste, May 13, 2009 -- The legitimate government of Nepal
was formed as a result of a very democratic process in Nepal. This
government came about from the struggle of a people, full of the spirit
of self-reliance, which was fighting against all forms of feudal,
imperialist and neoliberal oppression. However, now the agents of the
oppressors are beginning to engage in sabotage against this legitimate
and democratic government, efforts which are especially driven by the
military forces of the oppressors.
Based on these facts, Luta Hamutuk -- an organisation in Timor Leste
that is also fighting for economic justice and self-reliance, that is
against all forms of imperialist oppression -- would like to state our
full support for the people and democratic government of Nepal and
demand as follows:

Philippines socialists on Nepal: `We stand in solidarity with this
mass movement fighting for the people's interests'
    <http://links.org.au/node/1046>

May 14, 2009 -- The Partido Lakas ng Masa of the Philippines has
attempted to follow the developments in Nepal over the recent period. We
welcomed the ouster of the monarchy achieved by the people's struggle
and the mass movement, the unity of the main left forces, the Unified
Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and the Communist Party of Nepal
(United Marxist Leninist), and the elections which gave the left control
of the government. We welcomed as a victory for the left and progressive
movement worldwide the election of a left government led by the UCPN
(M), along with the CPN (UML).
We therefore consider the forced resignation of this government as a
result of the refusal of the pro-elite Nepalese military hierarchy and
the president, backed by the country's elite, to follow the directives
of a democratically elected government carrying out the platform that it
was elected upon, as detrimental to the people's interest and only
serving the interests of the Nepalese elite.

    Nepal' <http://links.org.au/node/1044>

Solidarity message to the revolutionary masses of Nepal
Statement by the Socialist Party of Malaysia
May 12, 2009.
1. The Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) would like to express our
greatest concern over the current political developments and
intensifying social struggles in the newly born Republic of Nepal.
2. The political and military elites have once again revealed their true
nature when the president, who is from the conservative Nepali Congress
party, overrode the decision of Prime Minister Prachanda from the
Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (UCPN-M) to sack Chief of Army
Staff Katawal. Some opportunist sections of the coalition government,
like the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN-UML)
also turned to the right by opposing the UCPN (M) move.
3. The army high command has refused to obey instructions from the
elected civilian government as well as refused to implement key parts of
2006 peace accords which included the integration of UCPN (M)-led
People's Liberation Army (PLA) into the current army forces. Sections of
the high command in the current Nepalese army committed serious human
rights violations during the armed conflict with PLA and continue to
enjoy impunity, and even planned to stage a military coup against the
elected government.

By the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation
May 5, 2009 -- The fledgling republic of Nepal seems to be standing on
the verge of a new phase of civil war. Chief of Army Staff (CoAS)
Rookmangud Katawal had been asked by the civilian government to explain
why he had continued military recruitment despite the government's halt
order and reinstated eight brigadier-generals who had been retired by
the defence ministry. Backed by its foreign patrons and right-wing
parties in the country, the military high command openly defied the
authority of the elected government. The government responded by
removing General Katawal, who refused to accept this and the
government's decision was then illegally overturned by President Ram
Baran Yadav, of Nepalese Congress party. With its coalition partners in
government refusing to support the United Communist Party of Nepal

announced that he had no choice but to resign.

US to give Pakistan $100 million humanitarian aid
19 May 2009 13:51:00 GMT
Source: Reuters

.
WASHINGTON, May 19 (Reuters) -
The United States plans to give Pakistan about $100 million in humanitarian aid to help people who have fled fighting between government forces and Taliban militants in the Swat Valley, two sources familiar with the plan said on Tuesday.

.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton plans to announce the aid at the White House at 11:15 a.m./(1515 GMT), they said. The White House said Clinton would make an announcement at that time but provided no details on it.

.
The money would come from existing government resources, meaning the Obama administration would not need to seek special permission from the U.S. Congress to spend it, and was to be disbursed immediately, according to the two sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

.
One of them said the money included disaster aid, refugee aid and food aid.

More than a million people are believed to have been displaced by heavy fighting between Pakistani soldiers and Taliban militants in the Swat Valley. The Pakistani army launched the offensive this month as international alarm grew over an intensifying Taliban insurgency.

Copied from the following URL:

http://pakistanidps.wordpress.com/2009/05/17/nadras-response/
…. NADRA Deputy Chairman, Mr. Tariq Malik's response to [pakistanidps] website's post on the Rs. 50/ charge being levied on IDPs that are trying to re-establish their particulars in light of their displacement.
"Thanks for pointing out an important issue on your blog. Let me clarify that there is no fee for IDP registration. The people in IDP camps are eligible to get free of cost ID cards. **Strict disciplinary action will be taken against NADRA employee who demands for any fee from IDPs**. NADRA has deputed a lot of Mobile Registration Vans (MRVs) which are parked and/or moving in the effected registering and delivering ID cards free of cost. The snapshot is misleading as it shows a receipt of NADRAs electronic application called eSahulat which is available in various parts of Pakistan for citizens to verify a citizens credentials as to whether the person is legal citizen of Pakistan or not (to combat Identity fraud). It appears that the friends and relatives of IDP living in other parts of Pakistan are using these machines (not located in IDP camps) helping to verify ID cards of IDPs so that they can get **speedy** services. IDPs must contact MRVs for free
services. We are **going to** run a public awareness campaign on this issue."
---------------------------------------------------------------

Here is my own personal take on this issue:

The mere fact that they had to take disciplinary action against their own staff begs the question: If NADRA's own staff did not know about this, how could they expect that an average IDP or his/her relative to know that there are no charges for IDP registration.  I do not believe them, and know that these people would do anything to cover their sorry asses. Someone dropped the ball and now they are backtracking.

NADRA should have taken care inform their own people, the Mobile Registration teams about FREE IDP REGISTRATIONS, and then forced they teams to carry and place large banners and placards indicating that. Those banners would have been automatically picked up by the news media during reporting and they would have taken care of the general public awareness.

I do think the Deputy Chairman Malik was  simply covering his ass by saying: "We are going to run … " This clearly appeared as a reactive after thought, when in fact that situation required a proactive action on his part.  This is yet another classic example of incompetence and ass covering, GoP style.

It boils me to read this -  this is criminal - we all must at all costs ensure that such does not happen - efforts are being provided to HELP these displaced people and our own govt is busy siphoning of whatever spare change is left in the pockets of these displaced individual - TRULY CRIMINAL ON OUR PART

A direct quote from the video and image also attached on the site [ http://teeth.com.pk/blog/2009/05/17/nadra-charging-rs-50-for-id-card-verification-from-idps-in-swat ]
"NADRA is charging Rs.50 for folks who lost/misplaced or had their cards destroyed in the process of fleeing their homes. The provincial government, district government, civil society and individual citizens are doing all they can to feed, house and clothe these IDPs.
The federal government charges them Rs.50 for their Identification Cards. Call your MNA, Senator, Uncle, or Auntie, call anybody and everybody you can, and tell them how outrageous this is. NADRA should stick to making money on contracts from foreign governments (as it does when it mass produces machine readable passports for other countries). This software house financed by the taxpayer should not be charging IDPs for a document that is a human and constitutional right in Pakistan."
May god have mercy on us all

10. Govt admits fudging figures, lowers growth rate

True that things were bad when this govt took over but it's also getting plenty of dollars from abroad, and it really needs to get its act together right away.

Govt admits fudging figures, lowers growth rate

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

By Khalid Mustafa

ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday revised the national growth rate downwards from 2.37 to 2.15 per cent, Adviser to the PM on Finance, Shaukat Tarin confirmed
to The News.

The economic managers acknowledged that the 2.37 per cent GDP growth estimates for current fiscal year worked out by the Federal Bureau of Statistics and
endorsed by National Accounts Committee, were flawed and fudged.

Tarin, confirming that the GDP growth estimates have been revised downwards at 2.15 per cent from 2.37 per cent, acknowledged that the FBS and NAC had not
included the negative growth registered in the large-scale manufacturing sector during July-March period.

"We have rectified the fault of FBS and now the GDP growth for current financial year has been projected at 2.15 per cent," he said. "I asked the institution
concerned to ensure transparency in figures and show the growth figures as they are."

However, Tarin said the other issues such as reducing the base by lowering the GDP growth of last fiscal from 5.78 per cent to 4.1 per cent and change in
methodology in measuring the growth in agriculture and construction sector will be explained later. He argued that all the steps taken by the FBS other
than excluding the large-scale manufacturing growth till March were justified.

However, when The News made contact with IMF's resident chief Paul Ross for comment over the role of the FBS in estimating the GDP growth, he refused to
offer any comment. Finance Secretary Salman Siddique actually took note of the story "GDP growth figures are fudged' published in the Sunday edition of
The News on Business pages and worked out two options on Sunday during a massive brainstorming session which continued till late in the night.

"The two options that were worked out were either to stick to the 2.37 per cent GDP growth and face criticism or to include the minus 7.7 per cent LSM growth
during July-March by replacing the minus 5.7 per cent of LSM growth in July-February period."

When Adviser Tarin was briefed on the two options on Monday, he took the right decision while acknowledging the foul play by FBS and lowered the GDP growth
estimates to 2.15 per cent.
