CBI ARRESTS A FORMER DIRECTOR GENERAL ORDNANCE FACTORIES, KOLKATA AND THREE PRIVATE PERSONS

CASH/ FDR AROUND Rs. TWO CRORE RECOVERED

New Delhi : May 19, 2009 

 

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case under section 120 B IPC, 7,8,10,12, 13(2) r/w 13(1)(a) and 13(1) (d) and 14 of PC Act., 1988 against the then Director General, Ordnance Factories, Kolkata, a private person & others on the allegation that accused while posted and functioning as Director General, Ordnance Factories & Chairman, Ordnance Factory Board, Kolkata during the period from May 2007 to April 2009 had entered into criminal conspiracy with private person & other accused with the object of demanding & obtaining huge illegal gratification in the matter of various supply orders placed by Ordnance Factory Board on the Private Manufactures/ Suppliers including Foreign Supplier, and also in the matters relating to transfer/ posting of the officers of Ordnance Factories. The CBI has arrested the then Director General, Ordnance Factories, Kolkata & a private person from Kolkata and two private persons from Delhi. The arrested accused persons are being produced in the designated courts at Kolkata and Delhi for remand.

 

Searches were conducted at the official and residential premises of the accused persons which yielded a huge Cash/ FDR for around Rs. two crore.

 

Recoveries made from accused persons & others are :-

 

i)                    Recovery made from the then Director General, Ordnance Factories & Chairman, Ordnance Factory Board, Kolkata:- A cash of Rs. 87 lakhs in House & Locker; US Dollar 321; Documents showing purchase of two plots of land at Pune at the cost of Rs. 9 lac each in the name of his wife; Documents showing purchase of a flat at Harimohan Ghosh Lane, Phoolbagan, Kolkata in his name; NSC/KVP worth Rs. 13,85,000/- in his name and in the name of family members and in- laws; Bank Pass Books of accounts with different Banks; MIS deposit worth Rs. 22,78,000/-; Three Bank locker keys in his & wife's name; FDR & other deposit account worth Rs. 17,65,605; Jewellery weighing 1605.300 grams ( valuation is Rs. 23,74,402/-); One City Honda in his name & another Maruti Zen in the name of his son.

             

It is alleged that the accused had opened a foreign A/c in a Bank in Singapore with the active help of a person working in Air India Office. This person was in touch with foreign suppliers.

 

ii) Recovery made from Kolkata based private person :- A cash of Rs. 27.50 lakhs in a locker in the joint name of two private persons; a cash of Rs. 49.99 lakh in a locker in the joint name of wives of the then Director General, Ordnance Factories & Kolkata based private person.

 

iii) Recovery made from a Delhi based private person :- A cash of Rs. 47.70 lakh.

 

iv) 90 notes of US $ of 100 denominations, 155 British Pounds, 243 Euro and two FDRs of Rs.

30,000/- each in the name of wives of the then DG and Delhi based private person.

 

v) Recovery made from another private person :- A cash of Rs. 45.20 lakh & US $ 5000.

Further investigation is continuing.
